  3. Do you ever wonder what Montessori is and who created it? Montessori is independent, hands-on learning where you work at your own pace. It inspires creativity by allowing you to learn about topics of your choice while at the same time, learning required skills in order to be a good citizen.
The Montessori method was created by Maria Montessori 111 years ago, and became very popular. Maria became the first ever Italian female doctor. As part of her medical practice, she visited kids that were in an orphanage and weren’t getting an education. She discovered that if she just let the kids use materials, they taught themselves about shapes, colors, letters, and numbers without her saying a word to them. She also saw the children's ability to focus and be independent. Over time, Maria added more materials to teach concepts in math, language, and culture. Many people across the world saw that the Montessori method is an excellent way to learn.

  6. What’s a typical day like in a Montessori classroom? After students get in from their lockers, they go into the classroom and start Morning Meeting, which involves a greeting, sharing, an activity, and a message. After that, they choose three to five works that they will complete that day. They then start work time, which is a two hour and 45 minute time where they work on assignments from their work plan. During this time, the teachers present some lessons to students to learn how to do some assigned activities.
There are 4th, 5th, and 6th graders in each classroom, and students work at their own pace. So, some people can be working on math or language higher or lower than what their grade level is. The sixth graders and some fifth graders are mentors to the fourth graders. The mentors help the mentees when they need help.
